Real Proud recognizes 4 Glendale High Students

Four Glendale High School students were recently recognized by Bank of Little Rock Mortgage on Friday September 8, during Glendale’s varsity football game. The students were honored as a part of the Real Proud of Real Falcons program, sponsored by Bank of Little Rock Mortgage.

The program recognizes hard-working students who are actively involved in their community and extracurricular activities. The students honored were Katelyn Harmon, Niklaus Lief, Adam Khan, and Claire Lakin.

Katelyn Harmon was recognized for her service to others.  She has been involved with the Glendale High School drama department since the 6th grade, but her love for theater goes beyond herself.  Katelyn fosters the love of theater by teaching drama to the youth of Springfield. She spends her summers assisting in the Springfield Little Theatre office learning what it takes to run a non-profit agency behind the scenes. She spends a majority of her volunteer time during the school year assisting elementary age students with youth performance troupe rehearsals, auditions, helping back stage and assistant directing the educational series shows.  Katelyn volunteers over 250 hours a year at the Springfield Little Theatre.  She is a gold service award winner for the last two years at Glendale and received the Prudential Spirit of Volunteerism Presidential Award (signed by President Obama) last school year for her volunteer hours and time with the youth of Springfield Little Theatre. Katelyn plans on becoming a drama and theater teacher.

Nik Lief was also honored with the Real Proud Award for Service. Nik’s classroom dedication and hard work are also a part of his life outside of school.  He is a member of Glendale’s “Boys Service Society”, a group that is dedicated to serving others and volunteering in many facets of civic life.  Mostly inspired by his own family’s dedication to serving others, Nik has 100's of hours of volunteer work.  He volunteers much of his time at a center for dyslexia, helping with odd jobs, as well as, with student with learning disabilities.  Nik also spends many hours volunteering at his church, to include helping with food drives. Last year, Nik volunteered at the Blood Drive which waslocated here at Glendale.  In addition to the time he spends helping others, Nik is a member of the soccer team.  He has also completed in the Envir-a-thon, a group that competes with the goal of promoting the protection and use of natural resources and addressing environmental issues.

Adam Khan spends his free time helping others here at Glendale High and in our community. Every week he is a volunteer at the Discovery Center helping young learners with all their curiosities within the world or science. Here at Glendale he helped start the after school tutoring sessions where he helps other Glendale students better themselves in the classroom. He has a passion for helping all those around them better themselves and always does it with a smile on his face.

Claire Larkin was recognized for being a well-rounded student both academically and socially. She cares deeply about her grades as well as people and her relationships. She is truthful, kind and compassionate. She is respected by her teachers and peers. Claire is involved as a leader in many Glendale organizations. She serves as the President of the Glendale DECA organization and the Assemblies Commissioner for Cabinet, all while maintaining a 5.0 GPA. She represents Glendale and herself professionally. She is honest and trustworthy. She is reliable. She is a genuine example of how a high school student and Springfield citizen should conduct themselves.

BLRM presented a check in the amount of $400 to the Falcon Foundation which is part of the $1,200 Bank of Little Rock Mortgage will donate to the foundation during the school year.
